INSPIRATION FOR THIS SEASON: YE-YE GIRL
INSPIRATION FOR THE SEASON
Plastic sunglasses, berets, stripes, hair straps, backpacks, pink outfits and white boots.. How are we not looking at the french version of the mods? Impossible, the Yé-Yé sixties style is so in line with what is coming that it became essential to share these images for your future reference. No one is wearing pigtails.. yet! Bangs are not a thing.. yet (for me kind of are.. I mean blonde bangs feel so right, uh!) and head scarves, sort of folded in a triangle.. not a thing yet but I'm sure it's coming next Summer.
Yé-yé was a style of pop music that emerged from France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal in the early 1960s. The term "yé-yé" was derived from the English term "yeah! yeah!", popularized by British beat music bands such as the Beatles.
Can't tell you about the 60's in France and not mention Jane Birkin - the one whose name was given to the most expensive bag in the world - the Birkin bag by Hermes of course. Many think she's French, but she was in fact born in London. Among the Yé-Yé Girls in France, among the Yé-Yé girls like Sylvie Vartan and Fançoise Hardy, Jane Birkin was the coolest. She originated the look we now associate to Caroline de Maigret - the effortless Parisian style.
The ye-ye girls were essentially pop singers who wrote songs about boys, school, friends. So you can really tell where artists like Taylor Swift and Carly Rae Jepsen got their style signature from.
Have a look, get inspired too, and get your essentials sorted for the season to nail the look. One accessory can carry so much meaning, pick wisely. I will leave below a few that I found that fit the yé-yé look like a glove!
